History of Forsyth County, GA
Forsyth County, Georgia's 81st county, was created on Dec. 3, 1832 from
Cherokee County which was formed from portions of the Cherokee Nation.
The county was named for John Forsyth (1780-1841) who had formerly served
as a U.S. Representative, a U.S. Senator, U.S. Secretary of State, and Georgia
governor from 1827 - 1834.
In 1857, portions of Forsyth County were used to help create Milton County
which was later annexed into Fulton County during the Great Depression.
